On Friday, the Islamabad police arrested Mushtaq Ahmed, a former senator from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), during a protest supporting the people of Gaza. The march was part of the “Save Gaza March,” organized by JI.
Mushtaq Ahmed and 20 other JI members were taken into custody outside Faisal Mosque after they attempted to march toward the US Embassy. They have been moved to Aabpara police station.
This isn’t the first time Mushtaq Ahmed has faced arrest during a Gaza protest; he was previously detained in August during a similar demonstration in Islamabad.
The authorities had imposed Section 144 in Islamabad, which prohibits gatherings without prior permission from the district administration. The protest near D-Chowk resulted in more than 20 arrests, including two women, for violating this regulation.
