U.S. State Department Advocates Fair and Free Elections in Pakistan

In a recent media briefing in Washington, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed the United States’ strong desire for Pakistan to conduct upcoming elections in a manner that is free, fair, and peaceful.

Miller underlined the importance of these elections aligning with Pakistan’s laws and regulations. Importantly, he clarified that the United States does not endorse any specific candidate or political party in Pakistan or anywhere else globally.

Responding to claims made by the founder of PTI and former prime minister regarding alleged U.S. intentions to establish military bases in Pakistan, Miller dismissed these accusations as baseless and without merit.

Emphasizing the United States’ commitment to supporting democratic expression and a robust democracy in Pakistan, Miller reiterated the need for the upcoming elections to be carried out freely, fairly, and peacefully. He advocated for fundamental democratic principles such as freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, association, and a transparent democratic process to be upheld during this crucial electoral period.
