The Supreme Court has taken steps to start contempt proceedings against the chairman of the Senate and several senators.

In Islamabad, someone has gone to the Supreme Court to ask for trouble against the Senate chairman and senators. Why? Because they passed a resolution asking to delay the February 8 elections. This person, named Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza, filed this request on Saturday.

The person who filed this, the petitioner, thinks that the Senate doing this is disrespecting the court. They say that if the elections get delayed, it’s breaking the rules of the constitution.

This person wants the court to start a case against the Senate chairman and those senators who said yes to delaying the elections.

On Friday, the Senate said yes to pushing back the Feb 8 elections. Most senators agreed with Dilawar Khan, who brought up this idea. But Senator Afnan Khan didn’t like it.

When they talked about this, only fourteen senators were there. Dilawar Khan said they should delay the elections because some important political people are getting threats. He mentioned Fazlur Rehman, Mohsin Dawar, and others who were attacked recently.

Dilawar Khan said that different political groups don’t want the elections when it’s cold. He also said they respect the court’s rules, but they’re being told to have elections when soldiers are dying.
