Prince Rahim started building two places that use sunlight to make electricity in Hunza.

Prince Rahim is currently visiting Pakistan and has launched the second phase of the Duiker Solar Power Plant and a new solar power plant in Nasirabad.

Together, these projects will generate 3.6 Megawatts of power. The first phase of the Duiker plant, which started in November 2023, has already improved daily power availability for over 11,000 people. Phase II will further increase power capacity and benefit an additional 8,760 people while reducing CO2 emissions by 1,100 tonnes annually.

The projects will cost $6 million and aim to replace diesel power generation. The Nasirabad plant will be ready by June 2025 and will provide electricity to 23,400 people. NPAK Energy Limited, part of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, is funding these projects with $6 million and has secured an additional $14 million from development partners. Over the next five years, NPAK Energy plans to invest more in clean energy to address the region’s energy shortages and help combat climate change.
