Another prominent leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) left the party shortly after Muhammad Zubair, the former Sindh governor, also ended his long association with the party.
Abbas Khan Afridi, a former federal minister and Senator, announced on Sunday that he is quitting both PML-N and politics altogether.
“I am leaving PML-N and retiring from politics,” he stated, adding that he has no plans to join any other political party in the future, as his political career began and ended with Nawaz Sharif.
Afridi, who contested the 2024 election from Kohat under the PML-N banner, criticized the political culture in Pakistan, calling it deceitful and suitable only for hypocrites.
In the recent election, Shehryar Afridi, an independent candidate backed by PTI, won NA-35 with 128,491 votes. Abbas Khan Afridi, the PML-N candidate, secured 57,184 votes, placing second.
Previously, Abbas Afridi served as the federal minister for textiles during Nawaz Sharif’s third term. He was also recognized as the second-highest taxpayer in Pakistan in 2013.
