Barrister Gohar Khan, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a close associate of Imran Khan, spoke to the media about Imran Khan’s worries regarding the relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He explained that Imran Khan, who founded PTI, is upset with how things are going between the two countries and thinks that the government’s foreign policy isn’t working well.
Gohar, who has held leadership positions in PTI despite some disagreements within the party, expressed sadness over the deteriorating relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said that this decline is mostly because of security problems, especially along the northwest borders of Pakistan.
Gohar, who used to be a lawyer but is now a politician, talked to reporters after meeting Imran Khan outside Adiala jail. He mentioned that when PTI was in power, relations between Pakistan and Kabul were better.
The relationship between Islamabad and Kabul has been strained, with Pakistan blaming Afghanistan for terrorist attacks coming from its territory. Gohar criticized the current government, led by Shehbaz Sharif, for the current state of affairs.
Recently, Pakistani forces carried out operations in border areas within Afghanistan to target terrorists responsible for attacks like the one in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, on March 16, which caused many casualties. Pakistan has been worried about terrorist groups, like the TTP, finding shelter in Afghanistan.
Gohar, who was recently elected as a member of the National Assembly, said he trusts Pakistan’s armed forces to protect the country.
Regarding a letter sent by PTI to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Gohar clarified that it was a reminder to the IMF about Pakistan’s situation. He mentioned that the protests outside the IMF’s headquarters were organized by overseas Pakistanis and not by the party within Pakistan.
