Bismah Maroof, former cricket team captain, retires.

Former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Bismah Maroof has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket.

Bismah, who made her international debut in 2006, played in a total of 276 matches for Pakistan, making her the most capped female cricketer from the country. She scored over 6,000 runs and took 80 wickets during her career, which spanned across One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

In her retirement statement, Bismah expressed gratitude to her family for their support throughout her cricketing journey. She also thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for providing her with opportunities to play at the highest level, especially appreciating their parental policy that allowed her to balance cricket with motherhood. Bismah extended her thanks to her fans for their unwavering support and to her fellow players for the camaraderie shared both on and off the field.

During her tenure as captain, Bismah led Pakistan in 96 international matches and represented the country in multiple ICC Women’s World Cup and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup editions. Her leadership was particularly notable during the 2022 Women’s World Cup and the 2020 and 2023 T20 World Cups. Bismah’s retirement marks the end of an illustrious career and leaves behind a legacy of achievements and contributions to women’s cricket in Pakistan.
