Child killed in Surjani Town, Karachi, in a dispute over garbage collection; victim from Afghanistan.

In a tragic incident in Karachi’s Surjani Town on Friday, a five-year-old Afghan child named Shehzad Gul was brutally murdered in what the local police have described as a dispute over garbage collection. The unfortunate incident unfolded in Sector 4B of Surjani Town.

According to the Surjani Town police, the dispute originated between two Afghan individuals involved in the collection of garbage, ultimately resulting in the fatal attack on Shehzad Gul. The suspect(s) involved in the incident have been identified, and the police are awaiting the formal filing of a First Information Report (FIR) by the victim’s family to initiate legal proceedings.

Gul Mohammed, the grief-stricken father of the victim, shared with reporters that he had been collecting garbage from houses for the past month. On the fateful day, his son and daughter accompanied him on his garbage collection rounds. During the course of their work, Gul Mohammed briefly left his children to attend to another street. Upon his return, he discovered that his son had sustained injuries from a severe blow with a hard and blunt instrument.

Rushing his injured son to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), the doctors confirmed the child’s tragic demise. In an emotional statement, Gul Mohammed mentioned that he had been receiving ‘threats’ from an individual who had previously held the contract for garbage collection. He suspects that the fatal dispute leading to his son’s death may be linked to this ongoing conflict.

“I am a poor laborer who earns Rs13,000 monthly through garbage collection,” expressed the grieving father. Gul Mohammed, residing in Rozi Goth in Surjani, also highlighted that Shehzad Gul was the only brother to two sisters. The incident underscores the grim consequences that can arise from disputes over seemingly mundane matters in vulnerable communities.
