KARACHI: A court in Karachi has rejected the bail plea of the female suspect involved in the Karsaz accident, where two people died, citing drug use as the reason for denial.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon ruled that drug users in such situations do not deserve bail, despite the victims’ families pardoning the suspect for the accident.
The suspect, who holds a British passport and driving license, was arrested after the fatal crash that killed a young woman, Aamna, and her father, Imran, on August 19 near the Pakistan Maritime Museum.
A case was filed at Bahadurabad Police Station by the victims’ family, accusing the suspect of negligence and rash driving. After a medical report confirmed traces of methamphetamine in her blood, a separate drug case was registered.
The court also noted the risk of the suspect leaving the country if granted bail. While the heirs of the victims had pardoned the suspect, calling the accident unintentional, the court emphasized the seriousness of the drug use charges.
The suspect remains in jail as the legal proceedings continue.
