Football star Cristiano Ronaldo is facing consequences from the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation.
After Al Nassr’s 3-2 win against Al Shabab, Ronaldo, amidst chants of “Messi” from rival fans, made a gesture that led to a one-match suspension and fines.
Ronaldo, who is leading the Golden Boot rankings with 22 goals this season, must pay a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals to the Saudi Football Federation and an additional 20,000 riyals to Al-Shabab, covering the costs of filing fees for the complaint.
The committee’s decision is firm and cannot be appealed, leaving Ronaldo to face the consequences of his actions. The controversy escalated as videos on social media showed Ronaldo cupping his ear and making provocative gestures toward Al Shabab supporters. The background chants of “Messi” added to the tension, referring to Ronaldo’s ongoing football rivalry with the Argentine star.
In his defense, Cristiano Ronaldo said, “I respect all clubs,” and explained that the joy after a shot expresses strength and victory, which is common in Europe. However, despite Ronaldo’s explanation, the committee has upheld the severity of their decision. It remains to be seen how this incident will impact Ronaldo and his future performances in the Saudi League.
