Elon Musk, the famous tech guy behind Tesla and SpaceX, is once again the world’s second richest person! He recently passed Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
Right now, Musk’s wealth is a whopping $205.6 billion, which is a lot more than it was before. This jump is mostly thanks to Tesla’s stock price going way up. On the other hand, Bezos’ wealth only increased a little bit.
These two rich guys are constantly battling for the number two spot, just behind the current champion, Bernard Arnault, who runs a giant company that sells fancy things like designer clothes and handbags. Arnault’s family fortune is still the biggest at $210.1 billion, but it went down a little bit recently.
For Musk, becoming number one is very close! He only needs $5 billion more to take the crown from Arnault.
A big reason why Musk has so much money is that he owns a big chunk of Tesla (about 20%) and has his fingers in many other businesses too, like space travel with SpaceX and some cool technology companies that are working on things like brain-computer interfaces.
Tesla’s stock price recently jumped because of a surprise trip Musk took to China. There, he met with an important leader and got some rules changed that were making it hard for Tesla to sell its self-driving cars. This means Tesla can now sell more cars and keep growing in China, which is a huge market.
On top of that, Tesla also made a deal with a giant Chinese internet company to get information about Chinese roads, which will help them make their self-driving cars even better.
