Former Information Minister in the PTI government, Fawad Chaudhry, was released from Adiala Jail after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted him bail.
The bail was given in a case linked to alleged corruption in acquiring land for a road project in Jhelum.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had accused Chaudhry of receiving unlawful benefits from a contractor involved in the dual carriageway project. Additionally, he was accused of approving a petrol pump along the road project for personal gain and misusing his power to assist relatives and others in land purchases along the same route.
Chaudhry’s lawyer argued that the case was politically motivated and aimed at preventing him from participating in the general elections. It was mentioned that nothing incriminating was found during his client’s custody.
Reports indicate that over 28 cases have been filed against Fawad Chaudhry in various cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Attock, Faisalabad, and Jhelum.
