ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet has approved a proposal to enhance Gwadar Port’s efficiency by directing government departments to use the port for importing 50% of goods, including wheat, sugar, and fertilizer.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting, during which the Ministry of Maritime Affairs presented the proposal. The cabinet also set future goals to increase exports from Gwadar Port. A subcommittee has been formed to submit quarterly reports on imports and exports through the port.
In addition, the cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka to issue a commemorative postal stamp celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations.
The cabinet expressed satisfaction with sugar export decisions, noting stable prices and benefits to sugarcane farmers. It also approved the reconstitution of the Korangi Fish Harbour Authority’s Board of Directors, ensuring provincial representation on such boards.
Other key decisions included appointing Muhammad Yaqoob as Federal Drug Inspector for Balochistan and approving amendments related to Planning Commission salaries under the Special Professional Pay Scale. The cabinet also endorsed the Economic Coordination Committee’s decisions from the August 29, 2024 meeting.
