Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, successfully petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to transfer her from the Banigala sub-jail to Adiala jail.
The court’s decision followed arguments and concerns about overcrowding and security issues at her Banigala residence, which was designated as a sub-jail after her conviction in the Toshakhana case. The court deemed the notification declaring her residence a sub-jail as invalid.
Bushra Bibi challenged her confinement at Banigala, expressing a preference to serve her sentence in Adiala jail alongside other political workers. She cited concerns about her safety being alone in the sub-jail premises and argued that the special treatment she received was discriminatory and against constitutional principles of equality.
The Toshakhana case involved allegations that gifts received by Imran Khan during his tenure as prime minister were sold at higher prices. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 14 years in jail, with Imran Khan also facing a 10-year disqualification from public office and hefty fines. The case centered on accusations of misusing official position for personal gain, particularly regarding the sale of state gifts valued over Rs140 million.
