India has completely halted the flow of water to Pakistan by using the Shahpur Kandi barrage on the Ravi River.

According to India Today, the water allocated to Pakistan, which was 1150 cusecs, has been stopped, benefiting the Indian region of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Shahpur Kandi barrage project, framed for irrigation and hydropower generation, diverts water away from Pakistan.

India has previously built dams like Bhakra Dam, Pong, Pandoh Dam, and Thein (Ranjitsagar). The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960, divides rivers between India and Pakistan.

Shahpur Kandi dam’s completion allows India to maximize the use of River Ravi water. Pakistan has urged strict implementation of the treaty due to the water crisis, launching the Living Indus projects.
