Israel’s war cabinet met on Monday to discuss how to respond to Iran’s recent missile and drone attack.
Some members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, who are known for being very aggressive, want Israel to retaliate quickly and strongly.
Meanwhile, the United States, Britain, and other countries are asking Israel to be calm and not make the situation worse. They are trying to calm down tensions between Iran and Israel.
An Israeli official, who didn’t want to be named because they were talking about security matters, said the cabinet is thinking about different options. They might try talking to Iran, or they might decide to attack Iran soon. But the cabinet hasn’t said anything public yet.
Isabel Kershner and Michael Levenson, who report for The New York Times, have been keeping an eye on the situation in Jerusalem and are providing updates.
