Jailed PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrested for eight more cases linked to the May 9 riots.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been arrested in eight more cases linked to the May 9 riots.

Qureshi, 67, was previously arrested in August last year and is now implicated in these additional cases related to the nationwide protests where civil and military installations were attacked.

A local court granted a three-day physical remand of Shah Mahmood Qureshi after his recent arrest by Lahore Police in connection with the May 9 riots case. However, the court refused to transfer him to Lahore due to security concerns. Instead, the investigation officer was permitted to interrogate Qureshi at Adiala Jail within three days, while he remains on physical remand.

Earlier, a special police team sought to arrest and question Qureshi based on an FIR filed at Police Station Sarwar Road. The Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore rejected this request citing security issues and instructed the police to present Qureshi via video link on Monday, May 27. PTI expressed disappointment over the new charges, claiming Qureshi had already been granted bail in these cases. They accused the authorities of deliberately keeping him detained, defying the court’s order, and vowed to take action against what they perceived as harsh treatment.
