High concentrations of hydrogen sulfide, posing a severe threat to marine life and nearby residents’ health, have been identified in a comprehensive study on coastlines, including Manora Channel, Sonmiani, Korangi Creek, and Bhanbhor Creek.
The coastal areas are now at risk of respiratory ailments and skin diseases due to the dumping of domestic sewage and industrial waste into the sea.
Despite plans for a Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) to address sea pollution, delays in fund release and a recent financial transfer to a public-private partnership have hindered the project’s progress.
Marine experts express concern about the deteriorating condition of sea life and highlight the urgency of completing the CETP project to protect aquatic ecosystems.”
