Maryam Nawaz has been chosen as the Chief Minister in the Punjab Assembly.

On Monday, Maryam Nawaz from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was elected as the Chief Minister of Punjab in the provincial assembly.

This historic event marked Maryam Nawaz as the first-ever female Chief Minister in Pakistan. Maryam secured 220 votes during the general elections held on February 8.

Her opponent, Rana Aftab Ahmad from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), did not receive any votes as the SIC chose to boycott the elections after being denied the opportunity to speak.

After the vote counting, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan declared Maryam Nawaz as the Chief Minister according to the assembly rules. He congratulated Maryam on her victory and invited her to share her thoughts.

In her speech, Maryam began by reciting and expressing gratitude for the newly elected speaker and deputy speaker. Despite the opposition’s absence due to the SIC boycott, Maryam emphasized the importance of their presence in the democratic process. She extended her thanks to her party members for their support.
