National Democratic Movement Chairman Mohsin Dawar got hurt when the police shot at protesters in North Waziristan on Saturday.
The demonstrators were protesting the delayed announcement of election results. Protestors say the police fired and used tear gas during the protest about the election result delay. The police claim that Dawar was injured when he and his supporters were protesting at the security camp gate in Miranshah.
Some of Dawar’s friends also got hurt in the incident and were taken to Miranshah Hospital, while Dawar himself was sent to Peshawar for treatment. At least six other protestors were injured, but hospital sources say their condition is not critical.
Miranshah District Police Officer (DPO) Rokhanzeb Khan said the firing occurred during a protest rally of a political party. Dawar contested for a seat in the National Assembly from the NA-40 constituency in North Waziristan but lost to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed independent candidate Aurangzeb Khan.
This incident comes after an attack on Dawar’s convoy in January, where he remained safe due to his bulletproof car and the swift action of security personnel. Despite such incidents, Dawar has vowed to continue his party’s election campaign, stating that nothing can stop his political struggle.
