SHIGAR: Renowned mountaineer Murad Sadpara, known for his heroic rescues, tragically passed away after suffering a severe injury while leading a K2 cleanup expedition. Sadpara was on his way back from Broad Peak when a rock struck his head at Camp One, causing fatal injuries.
The Broad Peak Rescue Team, which reached Camp One earlier today, confirmed his death. Sadpara had recently completed a mission to retrieve the body of mountaineer Hasan Shagri from K2 and was on another expedition to Broad Peak with a Portuguese climber. Unfortunately, they had to turn back when the Portuguese climber fell ill, and Sadpara was injured during their descent.
Sadpara’s body has been moved to the Japanese camp and will be transported to the base camp by 2 pm today. From there, it will be flown to Skardu via an army helicopter.
Murad Sadpara, aged 35, was a dedicated climber who spent his summers on mountains and winters driving tractors. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and a son.
