Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is about to become the PML-N party president again after six years.
He lost his position in 2018 due to a Supreme Court decision linked to the Panama Papers case. Today, in Lahore, Nawaz is expected to be elected without any opposition, even though several party members have nominations.
PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah said Nawaz would likely be elected unopposed and highlighted his role in making the party more public-focused. Nawaz’s return was supported by party members after his corruption cases were cleared. The Supreme Court also removed his lifetime disqualification, allowing his re-election. Sanaullah mentioned that the PML-N is open to talks with the opposition PTI, although PTI leader Imran Khan has been unwilling to engage in political discussions since 2011.
