Pakistan’s electricity regulator, NEPRA, is proposing a change to how people pay for their home electricity.
Currently, you pay a price per unit of electricity you use. NEPRA is suggesting adding a fixed monthly fee on top of that, depending on how much electricity you use overall.
Here’s how the proposed fees would work:
- If you use less than 400 units per month, you’d pay an extra 200 rupees each month.
- For those using 401 to 500 units monthly, the fixed fee would be 400 rupees.
- It would increase to 600 rupees for consumption between 501 and 600 units.
- Consumers using between 601 and 700 units would pay an additional 800 rupees per month.
- Those who use more than 700 units would face the highest fixed charge of 1,000 rupees.
It’s important to note that this is just a proposal, and the final decision rests with the government. They haven’t said yet if they’ll approve NEPRA’s recommendation. If they do, it could affect the electricity bills of millions of households across Pakistan.
