LAHORE: In the lead-up to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally scheduled for September 21, more than 100 party workers have been arrested by the Punjab Police. These arrests were made under preventive detention orders issued under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act.
Among those arrested are Aslam Iqbal, Mehmood ur Rasheed’s son Mian Hasan, Mehr Wajid, Waqas Amjad, Nadeem Bara, and 42 others. Police claim these individuals were involved in activities that could disrupt public order.
In response, the PTI has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, seeking protection against further arrests and asserting their constitutional right to hold peaceful rallies. The rally is set to take place at Minar-e-Pakistan, with PTI founder Imran Khan calling for action to defend democratic rights.
The petitioners, Sheikh Imtiaz and Yasir Gillani, argue that the police actions are infringing on the rights of party members to organize and participate in the rally.
