Over 90% of Housing Societies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Found to Be Illegal

PESHAWAR: A recent report from the Housing Department has revealed that more than 90% of housing societies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are operating illegally. Out of 822 housing societies, 495 are considered illegal, representing about 60% of the total. Additionally, 247 societies are unregistered, making up 30% of the total, while only 80 societies in the province are legally recognized.

The Dera Ismail Khan division is the most affected, with 254 illegal societies operating in that area.

In a related issue, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued notices to eight private societies in Lahore for improperly using the name and logo of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to promote and sell plots. The FIA has requested detailed information about these societies and has warned that legal action will be taken against any that misrepresent themselves as affiliated with government institutions without authorization.
