Oxford Urged to Reconsider Imran Khan’s Candidacy for Chancellor Due to ‘Taliban support, corruption cases’

Imran Khan

Oxford University is being asked to rethink Imran Khan’s nomination for the position of chancellor due to concerns over his past actions and statements. Several emails and a petition have been submitted to the university, questioning Khan’s suitability for the role.

The petition highlights Khan’s previous support for the Taliban and controversial statements about figures like Osama bin Laden. It also criticizes his remarks about women, claiming they perpetuate harmful stereotypes. Additionally, Khan’s recent conviction in a corruption case is raised as a concern.

Khan, currently in jail, has applied for the ceremonial chancellor position, stating he wants to give back to the university that helped him during his early years. The university will announce its shortlist of candidates in early October. The final list of candidates will be voted on by Oxford alumni later this year.
