The Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a heatwave advisory, predicting three distinct heatwave events impacting various regions over the next 25-day period.
First Event (May 15-30): Cities in South Punjab (Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan) and Sindh province (Umarkot, Tharparkar, etc.) face a heightened risk of experiencing a 2-3 day heatwave. Temperatures during this period are forecast to reach 40°C (104°F), with the potential for even higher perceived temperatures.
Second Event (Late May/Early June): A more prolonged heatwave is anticipated in late May or early June, potentially lasting 4-5 days. Temperatures during this event could rise as high as 45°C (113°F).
Third Event (June 1-10): The NDMA predicts a third heatwave impacting Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin, and Khairpur during the first ten days of June.
These anticipated heatwaves pose a significant public health risk. Residents in the affected areas must take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of these extreme temperatures.
