The renowned Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas has sadly passed away at the age of 73 after dealing with a long-term illness.
His daughter, Nayaab Udhas, shared the news on Instagram, expressing deep sorrow. The statement conveyed, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February due to a prolonged illness. Udhas family.” Pankaj Udhas had been facing an undisclosed illness and was receiving treatment at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he peacefully breathed his last on February 26.
Pankaj Udhas was widely acclaimed for his iconic ghazal performances, including memorable songs like “Chitthi Aayi Hai,” “Aur Aahista Kijiye Baatein,” “Chandi Jaisa Rang Hai Tera,” and “Na Kajre Ki Dhar.” Born on May 17, 1951, in Gujarat, he gained immense popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, establishing himself as a dominant figure in the world of ghazals in India.
Throughout his illustrious ghazal career, Udhas received significant recognition, with the Padma Shri being a notable highlight. The Padma Shri is the fourth-highest civilian award in the Republic of India. Pankaj Udhas’s contributions to the world of music have left an indelible mark, and he will be remembered for his soulful renditions that touched the hearts of many.
