Imran Khan’s party, PTI, is unhappy with the results of the recent Pakistani election.
They believe the vote was rigged and that the new government doesn’t represent the will of the people.
PTI launched a protest movement against the new government. They’ve been joined by another party, JUI-F, even though these two groups don’t always agree on things. PTI leader Asad Qaiser spoke with JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and they found common ground in their opposition to the government.
This isn’t the first time these two parties have talked since the election. They met before too, but it caused some friction within PTI. PTI says those meetings were just about offering condolences and not about politics.
Qaiser says both PTI and JUI-F agree the current government is illegitimate and needs to be challenged. He’s calling for a united front with other parties who believe in the rule of law to oppose this “fake government.”
This big protest movement isn’t just PTI. Several other parties are involved, including Balochistan National Party and Jamaat-e-Islami. They all kicked off their protests with a rally in Balochistan.
These parties are serious about taking action. They’re looking to form a committee to discuss the election results and figure out what to do next.
