PTI Claims Seven Government MNAs Will Oppose Constitutional Amendments

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has claimed that seven government Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) plan to vote against the proposed constitutional amendments.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan shared that reliable sources informed him of the seven government members’ decision to oppose the amendments, despite the risk of disqualification. Gohar said these members believe that voting for the amendments goes against their conscience. He also speculated that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari might be aware that some of his party members are also against the amendments.

The government has been trying to gather support for the amendments, which include the establishment of a federal constitutional court and a fixed three-year term for the Chief Justice of Pakistan. However, the amendments face strong opposition, with the government falling short of the necessary two-thirds majority in both the National Assembly and Senate.

In response, the PTI has announced nationwide protests, calling on the public to peacefully resist the changes. The PTI also highlighted alleged coercive tactics, with claims of harassment and abductions of members opposing the amendments.

The special committee on constitutional amendments continues to discuss the proposals, with further meetings scheduled in the coming days. While some parties, such as the MQM-P, have shown support for the government’s judicial reforms, the PTI remains firm in its opposition.
