ISLAMABAD: Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs, including party chairman Barrister Gohar, were arrested by Islamabad police after receiving permission from National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
On Monday, police detained PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Shoaib Shaheen. They also arrested MNAs Zain Qureshi and Sheikh Waqas Akram inside the Parliament House.
Other individuals arrested include Owais Ahmed Chatha, Syed Shah Ahmed, Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Yousaf Khan, Maulana Naseem Shah, and Ahmed Shah Khattak.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq authorized these arrests after the police presented an FIR against the PTI lawmakers for breaching SOPs during a public rally on September 8.
Three cases have been filed under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill in Islamabad, accusing 28 individuals, including PTI leaders, of violating the event’s NOC.
Earlier, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister safely returned to the KP CM House after a seven-hour absence following the crackdown on PTI leaders.
