Islamabad: As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gears up for a major rally next week, senior party leader Asad Qaiser announced on Thursday that PTI founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has approved the formation of a “grand opposition alliance” by expanding the existing platform, Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP).
“PTI has decided to expand the opposition alliance after consulting with Imran Khan,” said Qaiser, addressing the media alongside PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan and other party members outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Qaiser revealed that the former ruling party aims to unite all opposition parties to mount a powerful anti-government movement. He emphasized that the upcoming rally in Swabi is intended to raise a “strong voice” for the release of Imran Khan and other detained PTI leaders.
“This country will only be governed in accordance with the law and the Constitution,” he asserted.
During his address, Qaiser also criticized the current government for the skyrocketing electricity bills, labeling them as “unacceptable” for the inflation-hit masses. He expressed PTI’s support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) sit-in on Rawalpindi’s Murree Road, which has been ongoing since July 26, protesting against the massive hike in power bills.
The PTI leader’s statements highlight the party’s strategy to challenge the incumbent government and rally public support against economic hardships and governance issues.
