LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the “Dhi Rani Programme” to support underprivileged couples. Under this scheme, each couple will receive Rs100,000 along with essential household items like furniture, utensils, and clothes.
The initiative aims to ease the financial burden of marriages for low-income families, especially with rising inflation and poverty. Traditional customs like dowry have also added pressure on brides’ families.
At the programme’s launch, CM Maryam Nawaz announced, “Each newly-wed couple will receive Rs100,000 through ATM, and meals will be provided for 20 guests at the wedding.”
The provincial government also shared that applications for the Punjab Dhi Rani Programme can be submitted online at cmp.punjab.gov.pk. A dedicated helpline, 1312, has been set up for assistance. Home visits will be conducted to verify applicants, ensuring transparency in the process.
