Punjab reported 17 new dengue cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 396 for 2024, according to a spokesperson from the provincial health department.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne virus spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, with some cases also transmitted by Ae. albopictus. The disease has been rapidly spreading in many parts of the world in recent years.
In the last week, Punjab recorded 92 new cases of dengue, including the 17 reported in the past day. Authorities are raising awareness about the spread of dengue and taking action against those violating dengue prevention guidelines.
Recently, the owner of a tyre shop was charged after dengue larvae were found on the premises during a routine inspection in Kabari Bazaar, Rawalpindi. The anti-dengue teams are conducting inspections across the province to identify and control the breeding of mosquito larvae.
In Rawalpindi alone, anti-dengue teams discovered larvae at 8,064 sites during inspections carried out between January 1 and June 23, 2024. A total of 999 teams, including 788 indoor and 211 outdoor teams, are working to combat the spread of dengue in the district.
