Quetta and nearby areas in Balochistan experienced a moderate earthquake on Saturday around 11:09 am. The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.6, and its epicenter was located 98km in the Hindu Kush Region, Afghanistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Earlier this month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad were shaken by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake. On January 4, a magnitude 7.6 quake hit Ishikawa prefecture in Japan, resulting in casualties and displacement of residents.
In the past, the Research Institute of Solar System Geometry Survey (SSGS) predicted earthquakes in Pakistan’s Chaman fault line, causing concerns. The caretaker Balochistan government took precautionary measures in response. However, experts from the PMD rejected such predictions, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of earthquakes, which result from the movements of tectonic plates.
