Sahil Adeem Under Legal Scrutiny for Hate Speech Against Sindhi Community

Sahil Adeem, a prominent scholar, is facing legal action in Karachi following the resurfacing of a controversial video in which he makes derogatory remarks about the Sindhi community. The investigation has begun in earnest after the video, recorded about a year and a half ago, recently gained traction on social media.

In the video, Adeem discusses the historical Islamic concept of Ghazwa-e-Hind and makes inflammatory comments, suggesting, “Either we rectify ourselves through our own Ghazwa-e-Hind or we conduct a Ghazwa-e-Sindh.” He further claims, “Sindhi people offer their daughters to feudal lords before marriage,” and adds, “They call themselves Muslims, but their actions are worse than those of Hindus.”

The video’s release has sparked widespread outrage, particularly among the Sindhi community, who have called for Adeem to be held accountable. In response to a lawyer’s petition, police in Karachi have registered a case against Adeem under various sections, including incitement of hatred and promoting enmity between different groups.

As of July 13, the police have launched an investigation, though no arrests have been made. Sahil Adeem, the son of the renowned poet and writer Adeem Hashmi, is known for his lectures on YouTube and television appearances. He has recently faced criticism for comments made on a TV show, where he labeled 95% of the women in the country as ignorant.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining communal harmony in Pakistan and the powerful role social media plays in bringing such issues to light. The investigation into Adeem’s remarks continues as authorities work to address the accusations.
