LAHORE: A security guard from a private college in Lahore, accused of raping a female student, has been released from jail, according to local media reports.
The incident has sparked protests from students in various cities across Punjab, following allegations of a sexual assault at Punjab College earlier this month. The claims have caused significant unrest among students and activists.
While the college administration, the alleged victim’s family, and the Punjab government have denied that any assault occurred, the young woman’s parents have also rejected these claims, leading to confusion and heightened emotions.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the allegations of rape are false. She mentioned that an investigation revealed the girl had been hospitalized due to a fall prior to the claims surfacing. The Chief Minister criticized the ongoing protests, accusing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of misleading the public, particularly during the SCO summit. She pledged to take action against those spreading misinformation, emphasizing that the girl is a victim of political manipulation.
