The creator of the long-running animated comedy Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, recently shut down rumors about the show’s ending.
In an interview celebrating the show’s 25th anniversary, MacFarlane revealed he has no intention of pulling the plug on Peter Griffin and the gang anytime soon.
Despite facing cancellation after its initial two seasons in 1999, Family Guy found a devoted fanbase thanks to reruns on Cartoon Network and DVD sales. This unexpected cult following ultimately led to Fox reviving the show in 2005, and it’s been a staple on their network ever since, currently airing its 22nd season.
MacFarlane seems genuinely happy about the show’s continued success. He credits the show’s enduring popularity with its ability to make people laugh and its positive impact through charitable donations funded by the show’s revenue. He jokingly referred to this extra income as “extraneous cash” that allows him to support worthy causes like the Rainforest Trust while still enjoying a nice dinner – a perk that comes with the show’s ongoing success.
The only scenario MacFarlane envisions for ending the show is if viewers themselves lose interest. But for now, with strong ratings and a loyal fanbase, Family Guy seems poised to continue entertaining audiences for years to come.
