Shehbaz Sharif Meets Russian Deputy PM, Strengthens Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk to discuss enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Russia. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s House, focused on expanding partnerships in key areas like trade, energy, and security.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Overchuk warmly and emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with Russia, which he said is a priority for Pakistan’s foreign policy. He expressed interest in deepening collaboration in sectors such as economy, communications, and energy.

Sharif also mentioned his anticipation of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to Islamabad next month. He recalled productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin in July and thanked him for sending a high-level delegation to continue exploring new avenues for cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk appreciated the warm reception and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to its relationship with Pakistan. He described the partnership as mutually beneficial and agreed to continue efforts to boost collaboration.

The two leaders witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in various fields, including trade, IT, energy, and education. This meeting is seen as a positive step in fostering a stronger relationship between the two countries.
