Believe it or not, a student in India got more marks than possible on their tests.
Vanshiben, a fourth grader in Gujarat, was initially shown to have scored 212 out of 200 in Math and 211 out of 200 in Gujarati. That’s a total of 423 marks, way higher than the maximum possible score of 400!
This big mistake was caught by Vanshiben’s parents when they saw her report card. The school then realized their error and fixed Vanshiben’s grades to 191 and 190, bringing her total down to 381.
This situation has people wondering how such a big mistake could happen. It turns out this isn’t the first time! In 2023, a university in Mumbai accidentally gave students in a math class marks higher than 100. The university blamed a software problem and promised to fix the grades.
These mistakes raise concerns about how carefully test scores are calculated and whether schools are teaching well. Vanshiben’s school is looking into how the error happened to make sure it doesn’t occur again.
