The Supreme Court accepted apologies from lawmakers Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal for their critical comments about the judiciary but warned them against future violations.
The court also issued show-cause notices to 34 TV channels, saying that the explanations from 26 of them were not acceptable.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, resumed the contempt case against the lawmakers. The SC had previously issued contempt notices to Vawda and Kamal for their allegations against the judiciary.
Both lawmakers apologized, with Vawda expressing deep regret for his comments. The court accepted their apologies but warned that future offenses might not be forgiven.
The court also addressed the TV channels, noting that their replies were inadequate and lacked signatures from representatives. The channels claimed they aired the lawmakers’ comments in the public interest. However, the court found these defenses unconvincing and issued show-cause notices to all 34 channels, demanding they explain why they should not face contempt charges.
