Supreme Court stops LHC and ECP from forming election tribunals.

The Supreme Court has stopped the Lahore High Court (LHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from forming eight new election tribunals.

This decision came after the ECP complained about the LHC’s decision to create these tribunals for handling election-related issues.

A five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case. They emphasized that only the ECP has the authority to appoint election tribunals, not the LHC. The Supreme Court also noted that the LHC and ECP need to communicate better and resolve their differences.

The issue started when the ECP asked the LHC for a panel of judges for the tribunals, but there were disagreements over the judges chosen. The Supreme Court has now left it up to the ECP and the LHC to discuss and settle the matter.
