To draw in more tourists and boost the economy, Syria just launched a brand new way to get a visa.
This new system lets people apply for visas electronically, which means no more trips to a Syrian embassy or consulate. Visitors can now apply from the comfort of their own homes through a special website.
This is a big deal because it streamlines the whole process. Instead of waiting weeks or even months, applicants should hear back within 72 hours. The Syrian Ministry of Tourism worked with other government departments to make this happen.
This new system is also designed to be convenient. Syrians living abroad can now apply for visas for their friends and family from Arab countries or anywhere else in the world. They can do this either through special offices connected to the Ministry of Tourism or even online using a platform called Anjez Syria. For people living outside of Syria, there’s a dedicated E-Visa website that makes applying a breeze.
There’s even some flexibility when it comes to payment. While some applicants can pay electronically upfront, others can wait and pay everything, including the visa fee and a service charge, when they arrive at a border crossing.
Syria has big hopes for this new system. The Ministry of Tourism is setting a goal of 2.5 million visitors this year, with 40% of them being tourists. This e-visa system is a big step towards making Syria a more attractive travel destination.
