The government has appealed to the SC against the IHC decision to invalidate the secretive jail trial.

The government, in its petition, contends that the Islamabad High Court failed to properly assess the facts before declaring the special court for the cipher trial null and void.

It argues that the high court lacks the authority to abolish the status of a special court. The petition names Imran Khan, special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, and other officials as respondents.

The IHC had earlier nullified the proceedings of Imran Khan’s and Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s jail trial in the cipher case, declaring several notifications by the law ministry as without lawful authority.

Subsequently, the special court’s proceedings were invalidated again on January 11.
