The IHC, led by Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb, heard appeals regarding sentences given in a case.
Earlier this year, a judge sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to seven years in jail and fined them for marrying during the ‘Iddat’ period of the former first lady. Despite objections from the registrar’s office about the jurisdiction, the IHC proceeded with the hearing.
Bushra Bibi wants the IHC to decide on suspending her sentence. Imran seeks a directive for the Sessions Court Judge to announce a verdict or for the IHC to handle the appeal. Salman Akram Raja, representing them, argued that an administrative order shouldn’t stop legal relief. He pointed out that the judge had delayed the verdict despite scheduling it.
The court discussed the delay and potential unjust recusal of the judge. It connected both Imran and Bushra Bibi’s cases and set a hearing for Bushra Bibi’s sentence suspension request on June 13.
