The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is set to listen to the appeals of PTI founder and Shah Mahmood in the cipher case.

The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to listen to the appeals of the PTI founder and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi against being charged in the cipher case today.

Chief Justice Amer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb of the IHC will oversee the appeals against the charges in the cipher case.

During the previous court session, Barrister Salman Safdar, the legal representative for the PTI founder, presented arguments. He is expected to provide further evidence during today’s session.

PTI founder Shah Mahmood Qureshi has filed petitions challenging the charges against him in the cipher case. Both he and the former foreign minister were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the cipher case.

Additionally, Chief Justice Amer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will also listen to appeals against the charges in the Toshakhana case.

Meanwhile, proceedings for the “Nikkah during iddat” case are ongoing in the Islamabad sessions court.

The cipher case stemmed from an FIR filed against the PTI founder and other leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Azam Khan, and Asad Umar, accusing them of disclosing state secrets publicly, based on a complaint from the home secretary.

In a previous ruling on November 21, 2023, an IHC division bench, comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz, overturned the decision of the PTI founder’s trial in jail in connection with the cipher case.
