Today, the jail authorities will report to the Islamabad High Court about Imran Khan’s request to meet his lawyers online due to security concerns.
This request came because there were worries about Imran’s safety. The court had asked for this report to see what could be done to help Imran communicate with his lawyers safely.
In response to objections from the government’s lawyer about allowing online meetings, the court pointed out that the rules about prison visits were made a long time ago when there were no video calls. The court said these rules need updating to match the modern world. They also said that if physical meetings were allowed, they might also involve talking about political matters.
The court told the jail superintendent to make arrangements for Imran to meet his lawyers online until the security issues are resolved. They also said that if the jail doesn’t have the technology for this, Imran’s assistant can help arrange it. The court also made sure that the internet connection for these meetings is good enough for them to work properly.
In another matter, a request from lawyer Azhar Siddique to meet Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in jail was looked into. The jail authorities confirmed that this meeting had already happened, so the court closed this matter based on their report.
