A leader from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former chief minister, Pervaiz Elahi, along with others, had the charging of their case delayed in a situation regarding unauthorized appointments in the Punjab Assembly.
The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Pervaiz Elahi over accusations of appointing Muhammad Khan Bhatti as his principal secretary during his time as the chief minister.
Pervaiz Elahi and the others attended the hearing at the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).
During the hearing, their lawyer requested the court not to officially charge their clients in the case of illegal appointments. The lawyer suggested that discussions about the charges should resume after the legal team has had a chance to study the case records.
In response to this request, the court decided to delay the charging of Pervaiz Elahi and the other accused, adjourning the hearing until March 11.
It’s important to note that PTI’s Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was re-arrested shortly after being cleared by a court in two corruption cases.
An ACE spokesperson stated that Pervaiz Elahi was re-arrested in connection to a case involving illegal appointments in the Punjab Assembly. The spokesperson claimed that Elahi had made 12 unauthorized appointments of grade 17 officers in the Punjab Assembly. The spokesperson also alleged that unsuccessful candidates were given jobs by manipulating records, and fake testing services were used to benefit corrupt officials during the recruitment process.
