There’s an important meeting happening today in Peshawar, Pakistan, to decide when Ramadan will begin.
This committee called the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, is like a special group that tries to see the thin crescent moon (called Hilal) that appears at the start of Ramadan.
The meeting will be led by a man named Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, and it will happen after the afternoon prayers (Asr prayers). They’ll listen to reports from different parts of Pakistan to see if anyone spotted the new moon. Based on this information, they’ll announce whether we’ll start fasting for Ramadan tomorrow (Tuesday) or the day after.
Here’s a cool science fact! Scientists who study stars (astronomers) say the new moon for Ramadan appeared yesterday (March 10th). But it might be too faint to see yet. They think there’s a very good chance (95%) we’ll see it tonight (March 11th), which means the first-night prayers (Taraweeh) would be tonight and the first day of fasting would be tomorrow!
So, everyone in Pakistan will be waiting to hear the announcement from the committee later today. It’s an exciting time as we get ready for Ramadan!
