Pakistan’s highest court, the Supreme Court, is looking into claims that intelligence agencies have been meddling in judicial affairs.
This all started earlier this month when the Chief Justice decided to take a closer look at several complaints about this happening.
More recently, a group representing lawyers in Sindh province (SHCBA) has also asked to be involved in the case. They believe all government departments should follow the law. Another request has been filed asking the Supreme Court to set up a special committee with three judges to investigate a letter written by six judges from a lower court in Islamabad.
In that letter, the six judges complained that intelligence agencies were pressuring them. The person who filed this new request wants whoever is responsible to be held accountable and for the courts to remain independent.
